Drontal Allwormer for Dogs
Composition Drontal Allwormer for Small Dogs. Praziquantel 15 mg, febantal 75 mg, pyrantel (as embonate) 14.9 mg.
Drontal Allwormer for Dogs. Praziquantel 50 mg, febantel 250 mg, pyrantel (as embonate) 49.8 mg.
Drontal Allwormer for Large Dogs. Praziquantel 175 mg, febantel 875 mg, pyrantel (as embonate) 174.4 mg.
Actions Praziquantel destroys the tapeworm's ability to defend itself from the host's digestive enzymes and immune system. It also appears to interfere with the musculature of the scolex such that the parasite loses its attachment to the gut wall.
Febantel acts upon the energy pathways of roundworm parasites; pyrantel embonate interferes with their nervous system. The roundworm parasites are therefore attacked via two separate modes of action.
Indications Gastrointestinal worms in dogs including roundworms (Toxocara, Toxascaris), hookworms (Ancylostoma sp., Uncinaria), whipworms (Trichuris) and tapeworms (Echinococcus, Dipylidium, Taenia sp.); and to control the shedding of oocysts of the protozoan Giardia sp. in dogs.
Precautions Drontal should be used only in proven cases of Giardia infection.
Disposal Dispose of used containers by wrapping in paper and placing in garbage.
Dosage and Administration 1 Drontal tablet of appropriate formulation depending on size of dog. Giardia infections. Drontal should be administered at the usual anthelmintic dosage for three consecutive days.
