Manufacturer: Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health Registered Name Coopers Piliguard Pinkeye-1 Trivalent Vaccine for Cattle Composition Formalin inactivated cultures of Moraxella bovis isolates (= 1.0 RP/antigen/2 mL dose) in an oil emulsion adjuvant; gentamicin = 30 microgram/mL as a preservative. Indications Aid in prevention of pinkeye in cattle associated with infection by Moraxella bovis strains expressing pili similar to those in the vaccine (referred to by Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health as strains EPP63, FLA64 and SAH38). For use in healthy cattle. Precautions Avoid carcass damage. Sterilise metal injection apparatus by boiling before use. Plastic injection apparatus may be flushed with cool, boiled water. Avoid using strong disinfectants on apparatus. Maintain maximum cleanliness at all times. Keep needles sharp and clean. Replace frequently. Use needles of appropriate gauge and length. As far as possible avoid injection of animals in wet weather or in dusty conditions. This product should be injected into subcutaneous tissue or muscle on the side of the anterior one-third of the neck. Safety directions Extreme caution should be used when injecting oil emulsion vaccines to avoid injecting yourself. Accidental self-inoculation may cause inflammatory reactions or allergic response which require correct medical management. First Aid Medical advice should be sought as soon as possible in the event of self-inoculation. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126. If swallowed do not induce vomiting. Give a glass of water. Keep out of reach of children. Disposal Dispose of empty container and outer packaging by wrapping with paper and putting in garbage. Discarded needles should immediately be placed in a designated and appropriately labelled sharps container. The container should be of a type to reduce the possibility of injury to handlers during collection and disposal. Incineration is the preferred method of disposal, otherwise sharps should be buried at a suitable site, such as an on farm chemical disposal pit located away from watercourses. Withholding Periods Nil. Export Slaughter Interval Nil. Adverse Reactions Transient local reaction may occur at the injection site. Use may occasionally lead to development of lumps at the injection site which may persist for several weeks. Hypersensitivity reaction may occur and can cause temporary reduced milk production in lactating cattle. Temporary stiffness, soreness and a reduced appetite may occur following use. On rare occasions, allergic shock reactions have occurred. In these cases adrenaline should be administered. A veterinarian should be consulted regarding the use of adrenaline. Dosage and Administration Shake contents before use. Vaccine may be warmed to room temperature prior to injection. Dose. 2 mL by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection into the side of the neck, three to six weeks prior to the onset of the pinkeye season. Annual revaccination is recommended three to six weeks prior to the onset of the pinkeye season. Use within 24 hours of opening. Discard any unused vaccine.
