Precautions Vaccinate only healthy cats or kittens with normal temperatures. Animals under treatment with immunosuppressive drugs should be vaccinated with caution. Studies to support the use of the product in pregnant queens have not been conducted. Use before the expiry date marked on the label. First aid. Accidental self-injection may lead to an inflammatory response, and medical advice should be sought on the management of deep injections, particularly those near a joint or associated with bruising. If possible, the application of gentle squeezing pressure with absorbent material (e.g. facial tissues) at the injection site will swab up unabsorbed vaccine. Strong squeezing of the site should be avoided. The damaged area should be thoroughly cleansed and a topical antiseptic applied. Disposal. Dispose of empty vial by wrapping with paper and putting in garbage. Discarded syringes and needles should immediately be placed in a designated and appropriately labelled sharps container. The plastic shell is fully recyclable. Adverse Reactions Some animals may show transient postvaccination reactions including pain, malaise, lethargy, inappetance, transient fever, depression and/or stiffness. These reactions usually disappear within 24 to 48 hours. Allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis occur rarely and may require parenteral treatment with an antihistamine, a corticosteroid or adrenaline as appropriate. Local site reactions after vaccination are rare but transient swelling, pain and subcutaneous thickening may occur. Dosage and Administration Shake the bottle well to obtain a uniform suspension of the vaccine before administration. The entire contents of the bottle should be used immediately after opening. A new sterile syringe and needle should always be used to administer this vaccine. Dose. Withdraw the contents of a single dose vial (1 mL) aseptically into a sterile syringe and inject intramuscularly (into the thigh) or subcutaneously. Recommended vaccination plan. Fel-O-Vax 4 Vaccine (Inactivated) can be used on its own or as part of a standard vaccination program. The following vaccination program is recommended for cats and kittens. Cats 8 weeks and older. For an initial vaccination course, two doses are required, injected at an interval of three to four weeks. Booster vaccination. An annual booster with a single dose of vaccine is recommended.
