Cats > Heartworm/Flea/Wormer Combined medications

Milbemax Small cats 0.5-2kg. 20 tablets (90g)

QTY:

Milbemax Cat

Manufacturer:  Novartis Animal Health Australasia Pty Limited
Composition Milbemax Tablets for Small Cats. Milbemycin oxime 4 mg, praziquantel 10 mg.
Milbemax Tablets for Cats. Milbemycin oxime 16 mg, praziquantel 40 mg.
Actions Milbemycin oxime is believed to interfere with the transmission of nerve messages in roundworms, hookworms and heartworm by binding to receptor sites on the cell membrane's glutamate gated chloride channels, leading to hyperpolarisation and elimination of nerve signal transmission.
Praziquantel causes influx of Ca2+ at receptors on the body surface of tapeworms. This leads to membrane depolarisation and almost instantaneous contraction of the musculature (tetany), rapid vacuolisation of the syncytial tegument and subsequent tegumental disintegration (blebbing), resulting in easier expulsion from the gastrointestinal tract or death of the tapeworm.
Use for the treatment and control of adult and immature roundworm (Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina), adult and immature hookworm (Ancylostoma tubaeforme) and tapeworm (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia sp.) and prevention of heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) in cats over 6 weeks of age and 500 g in bodyweight.
Precautions Cats should be examined for existing heartworm infection prior to starting treatment with Milbemax as a heartworm preventative. Consideration should be given to treating infected cats to remove adult heartworm if present. This formulation is not suitable for dogs.
First aid. If poisoning occurs, contact a doctor or Poisons Information Centre. Phone Australia 131 126. If in eyes, hold eyes open, flood with water for at least 15 minutes and see a doctor.
