Manufacturer: Fort Dodge Australia Pty Limited Composition Each mL contains inactivated feline immunodeficiency virus (Petaluma and Shizuoka strains RP greater than or equal to 1.0); polymyxin B, neomycin and thiomersal (preservatives). Indications An inactivated vaccine for the active immunisation of susceptible healthy cats 8 weeks of age or older as an aid in the prevention of infection with feline immunodeficiency virus. Precautions Vaccinate only healthy cats or kittens with normal temperatures. Animals under treatment with immunosuppressive drugs should be vaccinated with caution. Studies to support the use of the product in pregnant queens have not been conducted. First aid. Accidental self-injection may lead to an inflammatory response and medical advice should be sought on the management of deep injections, particularly those near a joint or associated with bruising. If possible the application of gentle squeezing pressure with absorbent material (e.g. facial tissues) at the injection site will swab up unabsorbed vaccine. Strong squeezing of the site should be avoided. The damaged area should be thoroughly cleansed and a topical antiseptic applied. Disposal. Dispose of empty vials by wrapping with paper and putting in garbage. Discarded syringes and needles should immediately be placed in a designated and appropriately labelled sharps container. Please note instruction leaflet, label and plastic shell only are recyclable. Adverse Reactions Some animals may show transient postvaccination reactions including pain, malaise, lethargy, inappetence, transient fever, depression and/or stiffness. These reactions usually disappear within 24 to 48 hours. Allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis occur rarely and may require parenteral treatment with an antihistamine, a corticosteroid or adrenaline as appropriate. Local site reactions after vaccination are rare, but transient swelling, pain and subcutaneous thickening may occur. Dosage and Administration Shake the bottle well to obtain a uniform suspension of the vaccine. Use the entire contents of the bottle immediately after opening. Use a new sterile syringe and needle. Dose. Withdraw the contents of a single dose vial (1 mL) aseptically into a sterile syringe and inject subcutaneously. Fel-O-Vax FIV Vaccine (Inactivated) can be used on its own or as part of a standard vaccination program. Cats aged greater than or equal to 8 weeks. For an initial vaccination course, three doses at intervals of two to four weeks. Booster vaccination. Annually boosting with a single dose of vaccine is recommended.
